At approximately 2:50 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, officers with the Frederick Police Department were dispatched to the 1300 block of Mulberry Court for a report of a suspicious vehicle. The call followed a report of someone breaking into vehicles in the area of Hillcrest Drive and Orchard Drive.

Following the adoption of Thrive Montgomery 2050 in 2022, the big question on our minds at Montgomery Planning has been – what’s next in terms of implementation? Thrive, the county’s updated General Plan, has big implications on how we grow as a county in the decades to come and marks a shift in how we plan. As we began developing Montgomery Planning’s new Strategic Plan, which outlines internal goals and objectives over the next five years, we realized we need to look at the department’s structure to position our organization for that shift.

CNN has released its “America’s Best Towns to Visit 2025” list of ten cities across the country. CNN considered hundreds of candidates and winnowed the list to 10 by evaluating the finalists’ attractions, food and beverage offerings, cultural and nightlife scenes, diversity, sense of identity, proximity to other interesting spots and wow factor. Annapolis, our state capital, came in ranked #5 overall.
Starting last night, Friday, June 27, crews began to implement the first of two traffic shifts of all four lanes on southbound I-495 (Beltway Outer Loop) within the I-495 Express Lanes Northern Extension (495 NEXT) project area. This first phase shifts southbound I-495 lanes from just north of George Washington Memorial Parkway (GWMP) to just south of Georgetown Pike onto newly constructed lanes on the outer section of the highway. Work began Friday night, with all southbound lanes in this section of the Beltway reopened in their new alignment by 10 a.m. this morning (Saturday, June 28). Delays extended onto I-270 in Maryland.
