The Orange Crush has officially become Maryland’s state cocktail, a well-deserved recognition for a drink that has become synonymous with Maryland summers. This designation, signed into law by Governor Wes Moore, went into effect on June 1, 2025. During our trip to Ocean City, we visited The birthplace of the Orange Crush: Harborside Bar & Grill.

MoCo Government

The Montgomery County Council’s Government Operations and Fiscal Policy Committee will meet on June 12 to review legislation that would establish a hiring preference for displaced federal workers and to consider a resolution adopting the Fiscal Year 2026–2031 Tax Supported Fiscal Plan Summary.

Lone Oak Brewing Co., home of America’s Best Lite Beer, is celebrating its 5th anniversary with a party on Saturday, June 14th from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at 5000 Olney Laytonsville Rd. in Olney. The event will feature the MoCoShow, along with local favorites Jimmy’s Famous Seafood– home of America’s Best Crabcake– and Grubbing Hard BBQ.

Maryland

Governor Wes Moore announced $6.95 million in Build Our Future grants awarded to 10 projects across Maryland aimed at strengthening innovation infrastructure in key sectors such as life sciences, clean tech, cybersecurity, and agriculture. Two Montgomery County-based companies, Liatris and Silvec Biologics, received funding to expand facilities supporting clean energy materials and agricultural biotech innovation. (more…)
