Damascus

Since 1962, Jimmie Cone has been a beloved destination for soft serve ice cream and frozen yogurt in Damascus, Maryland (26420 Ridge Rd). Today it opens for its 63rd season, as the iconic ice cream shop continues to delight both longtime fans and new visitors alike. Jimmie Cone also boasts an additional location in Mount Airy (1312 S Main St.), expanding its reach to even more ice cream enthusiasts.

Event

The Triumph Trek at the Rio is the ultimate celebration of strength, recovery and hope — and everyone is invited.

On Sunday, September 20, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Adventist HealthCare Rehabilitation and Adventist HealthCare Home Care Services will gather at Rio Lakefront in Gaithersburg for an untimed walk-or-wheel around the accessible lakeside path. This is not a race. Scooters, wheelchairs, walkers, strollers and every pace are welcome, and no one finishes last.


Beyond MoCo

Dave Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports and famous for his “One Bite” pizza reviews, visited Frank’s Pizza & Pasta at 6620 Belair Rd in Baltimore earlier this year to sample their offerings. Since his visit, customers have been lining up down the block before the restaurant opens, eager to savor the pizza and cheesesteak that Portnoy rated so highly.

Crime

On Friday, March 14th, at approximately 6:45 AM, a Sherwood High School teacher experienced an attempted car theft while visiting the Starbucks located in the Shoppes at Olney shopping center (3126 Olney Sandy Spring Rd). We interviewed the teacher who told us she typically visits the Starbucks on Friday mornings as a weekly treat and reported that she has never encountered anything like this at that location.

Beyond MoCo

On Friday, Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced that Racquel Britt Davis, 51, was sentenced by Judge Robert E. Cahill, Jr. for felony theft after submitting 18 fraudulent claims for short-term disability and accident supplemental insurance while employed as a correctional officer, and she has been ordered to pay $50,251.66 in restitution.
