HONORING THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF 9/11
Newly announced, the festival will open on Friday evening, September 11, with a special tribute honoring the 25th anniversary of 9/11. All three bands performing that evening include veterans and active-duty military members.
Be sure to visit Old Fireman’s BBQ Food Truck and meet a firefighter who was on-site at the Pentagon on that fateful day. We are offering special pricing for first responders and military.

Taking place alongside the Maryland Seafood Festival, Skipjack Heritage Days invites families to discover the stories and traditions of the Chesapeake Bay through hands-on activities, educational exhibits and public sails aboard historic skipjacks.
The weekend culminates with a Sunday skipjack race that guests can watch from the festival grounds at East Beach. Skipjacks are living history and icons of our region—this is a rare opportunity to experience them up close.

The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) is urging residents to plan ahead and avoid driving under the influence of alcohol or cannabis during the holiday season. To address impaired driving, MCPD has launched a “Holiday Task Force,” running sobriety checkpoints and patrols from November 20 through January 11.
During the week of December 4-7, the task force arrested 37 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, bringing the three-week total to 109 arrests. Additional DUI arrests made by patrol officers are not included in this total.
District 5 Montgomery County Councilmember Kristin Mink released the following statement on Wednesday, December 11, an incident where a racial slur was found written on a student’s desk at Wootton High School in Rockville. (more…)

Comedian Mark Curry is coming to town with two shows at Bethesda Theater this Sunday, December 15th. Perhaps best known as the star of the ABC sitcom “Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper” and as one of the various hosts of the syndicated series “It’s Showtime at the Apollo”, Curry became a household name in the 90s. The shows will be at 6pm (dinner & doors at 4pm) and 9:30pm (dinner & doors at 8:30pm), with tickets available here.

Parinaz Fathi, a Rockville native who graduated from the University of Maryland in 2015 before moving on to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign to complete her Ph.D.in 2020, has been named tot he 2025 Forbes 30 Under 30 List in the Science category.
