Purple Line Construction Updates in Montgomery County

Beginning on or about May 31, 2022, crews will add a 2nd crew to continue to advance underground utility relocation work.  The 2nd shift may take place from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, with makeup days on Friday and Saturday, as needed. Work will occur within the long-term lane closure on Wayne Avenue between Dale Drive and Springvale Road. A noise waiver is in the process of being reviewed for activities related to the Purple Line project. For more information please review the noise waiver here. Beginning on or about June 12, 2022, Bonifant Street (East) will be closed to vehicular traffic between Georgia Avenue and Fenton Street for up to 4 consecutive nights. Work may take place 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., weather permitting. At least one sidewalk will be maintained for pedestrian access to Bonifant Street during the road closure.

Beginning on or about May 22, 2022, resurfacing of Piney Branch Road between Arliss Street and University Boulevard will take place through the end of May. Work will occur in two shifts, weekdays and weekends. Temporary lane closures and uneven surfaces will occur during this effort.

Crews continue utility relocations on University Boulevard (MD 193) between Piney Branch Road and Riggs Road through June. Temporary lane closures may occur 7 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. weekdays and weekends, as needed.

Beginning on or about May 22, 2022, crews will begin utility relocations at the intersection of University Boulevard (MD 193) and New Hampshire Avenue (MD 650). Work will take place overnight weekdays and as needed, weekends through June, weather permitting. Temporary lane closures may occur 11:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., with a minimum of one lane in each direction on University Boulevard (MD 193) and New Hampshire Avenue (MD 650) maintained around the work zone. Access to local businesses will be maintained. Pedestrian detours will be implemented on an as-needed basis.
