Seven Rockville Police Officers and Senior Center Employee Honored at Public Safety Awards

Per the City of Rockville:
Seven members of the Rockville City Police Department and a city employee were honored for their service to the community at the 33^rd annual Rockville Public Safety Awards held June 8 at Lakewood Country Club. Each year, members of public safety agencies that serve the City of Rockville are recognized for their outstanding service. Since 1990, more than 600 awards have been presented to members of Rockville’s public safety agencies, civilians and K-9 partners.

This year, 34 members of the RCPD, Rockville Volunteer Fire Department, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Montgomery County Department of Correction and Rehabilitation, and Montgomery County Department of Police, as well as Montgomery County Public Schools and City of Rockville staff members, were honored for their service. RCPD members were honored with the following awards:

The Distinguished Service Citation is presented to a member of a public safety organization, or a civilian, who served beyond the ordinary call of duty. It recognizes diligence, perseverance and timely judgement in the performance of a difficult task that resulted in the protection of life or property, the prevention of a major crime, or the apprehension of an armed and dangerous criminal. The following RCPD members were honored with the citation:

Cpl. Christopher Sadelson, Cpl. Jeremy Ziegler and Officer Jeff Park, for responding to a woman who had attempted suicide.

Cpl. Renae McEvoy, for her role in a burglary investigation that led to the arrests of three men for firearms violations.

The Meritorious Service Citation is presented to a member of a public safety organization or civilian community who deserves acknowledgement of a duty or task that falls above the normal scope of his or her job or that could easily have gone undone or unnoticed. The following RCPD members were honored with the citation:

Cpl. Nicholas Roy, for his compassion and generosity in assisting a woman who was homeless.

This Lifesaving Award is given to an employee who contributes to the saving of a human life by physical rescue or through the administration of first aid. The following RCPD members were honored with the award:

Officer Tyler Haines and Rockville Senior Center employee Jerry Jones, for initiating and conducting a welfare check that saved the life of a woman who had fallen in her home.

Officer Jordan Santis, for administering CPR to a woman who was unresponsive in her home.

Cpl. Christopher Sadelson, for administering CPR to a woman who was unresponsive in her home and comforting her husband.

Cpl. Renae McEvoy and Officer Jordan Santis, for acting quickly to save the life of a woman who had attempted suicide.
