Bethesda-based Imagination Stage received a three-year grant from the Kaiser Permanente Fund at the East Bay Community Foundation to expand its educational theater programs promoting children’s mental health. The initiatives include Empathy Quest, an interactive play for elementary students focused on empathy and self-regulation, and RISE UP, a virtual workshop designed to help educators address mental health challenges in schools.


The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) arrested 22-year-old Terrance Barfield and 18-year-old Jaylen Cunningham, both of Washington, D.C., in connection with an armed robbery at Manny & Olga’s Pizza in Bethesda, with investigators later linking Barfield to three additional pizza restaurant robberies across Montgomery County between September 23 and October 1.

One of Montgomery County’s most beloved park icons just got a fresh new look. Porky the Litter Eater, the talking trash pig who has been delighting (and occasionally startling) generations of parkgoers at Cabin John Regional Park, recently received a full makeover from Montgomery Parks. The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) began enhancing bike lanes along MD 190 (River Road) in Bethesda on Wednesday, October 8. The project is taking place between Brookside Drive and Little Falls Parkway and is expected to be completed by the end of October, weather permitting.

Sir Walter Raleigh Inn is fondly remembered as an affordable steakhouse known for its extensive salad bar, making it a popular spot for homecoming dinners and birthday celebrations. The Montgomery Village location, now a CVS, closed in 2005, but the chain once had multiple locations across the DC Metro area, including Baltimore, Bethesda, Wheaton, and Alexandria. (more…)
