Traffic Shifts Affect Traffic On I-495; Delays Extended to I-270

Starting last night, Friday, June 27, crews began to implement the first of two traffic shifts of all four lanes on southbound I-495 (Beltway Outer Loop) within the I-495 Express Lanes Northern Extension (495 NEXT) project area. This first phase shifts southbound I-495 lanes from just north of George Washington Memorial Parkway (GWMP) to just south of Georgetown Pike onto newly constructed lanes on the outer section of the highway. Work began Friday night, with all southbound lanes in this section of the Beltway reopened in their new alignment by 10 a.m. this morning (Saturday, June 28). Delays extended onto I-270 in Maryland.

Commanders Release Statement in Response to Proposal That Would Remove New Stadium From DC’s Budget

A Washington Commanders spokesperson has released a statement after DC Council chairman Phil Mendelson proposed pulling the Commanders stadium deal from the upcoming budget. CBP Seizes 695 Pounds of Psychedelic Drug Bound for Maryland

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in Baltimore seized 695 pounds of the psychedelic drug DMT on June 11, 2025, from shipments originating in Mexico and destined for Harford County, Maryland. The substance, a Schedule I hallucinogen with no approved medical use in the U.S., had an estimated street value of $555,000. (more…)
