A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for parts of Maryland (including NW Montgomery County) and Northern Virginia from 3pm Sunday through 10am Monday. The warning includes Frederick County and Northwest Montgomery County in Maryland, along with Eastern and Western Loudoun counties in Virginia.

Heavy snow is expected in the warning area, with general accumulations of 3 to 6 inches. Higher elevations above 1,000 feet could see significantly higher totals, ranging from 6 to 12 inches. Winds may gust as high as 35 mph, which could lead to blowing snow and reduced visibility at times.


The Montgomery County and DC area communities are rallying around longtime resident Irene Johnson following the sudden and unexpected passing of her husband, former Washington Redskins Pro Bowler Tré Johnson. A GoFundMe fundraiser has been started to raise money for the family.

A Winter Storm Watch is now in effect from Sunday afternoon through Monday morning for a large portion of Maryland and Northern Virginia, and the region’s four major TV weather teams have released their first call snowfall maps. While details are still being refined, all indications point to a potentially impactful event, especially late Sunday into early Monday.
