The National Weather Service is showing increasing confidence in the potential for a significant winter storm to impact the region this weekend, followed by a stretch of dangerously cold temperatures heading into next week.

Almost all major weather models are now showing a strong signal for significant snow impacting the region this coming weekend. Some model outputs are displaying extreme scenarios, including snowfall totals measured in feet, but forecasters caution that the event is still roughly five days away, leaving plenty of time for the setup to shift.
The DC region is entering a stretch of active winter weather, with forecasters tracking both near-term temperature swings and the potential for snow later this week (likely over the weekend).
