The Education and Culture (EC) Committee will meet on Thursday, Sept. 11, at 9:30 a.m. to review the MCPS central office reorganization plan and receive an update on staffing and hiring. The reorganization, approved in June 2025, aims to direct more resources to schools and students, reduce 68.8 full-time positions and $5.9 million in expenses, while the staffing update will address vacancies, especially for special education and multilingual learner support roles. Week 1 was chaos. Some results lined up, some were head scratchers. Typical Week 1: more questions than answers. The big theme going forward: is the winner actually good… or is the loser actually bad? With any luck, Week 2 brings more clarity. But knowing MoCo football, it’ll probably just make things messier. Let’s dig in.
Montgomery County resident and Northwest High School alumnus Gediminas Petraitis has built an impressive career in the NBA, where he is now in his eighth season as a staff official. Over that span, Petraitis has officiated more than 450 regular-season games and 11 playoff matchups, cementing his place among the league’s top referees, according to the National Basketball Referees Association (NBRA).
