Montgomery County Government has announced it will host free fireworks displays on Thursday, July 4 in Germantown and July 6 in Kensington. There will be additional fireworks displays happening around Independence Day in the county, including Gaithersburg’s Summerfest in Bohr Park on June 29.
Sofia, a second grader from Kensington Parkwood Elementary School, could soon have her art on the Google homepage for hundreds of millions to see. Sofia is one of the 55 U.S. state and territory winners in the Doodle for Google contest, MCPS announced this week.
MASTIHA Bakery at 2387 Lewis Ave. in Rockville has closed. MASTIHA opened its Rockville location in April 2023 after relocating from 10560 Metropolitan Ave. in Kensington, where it was formerly known as Baklava Couture.
Kensington Market, located at 4215 Howard Ave., has announced that it will be closing its doors permanently on May 25th.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to 10644 Connecticut Ave (Kensington) for a fire in an auto body shop at approximately 6:40pm on Sunday.
Montgomery County Police has released additional information regarding the two false bomb threats that that were received on Tuesday, April 24. (more…)
Update: Einstein High School has been cleared. Staff and students are returning back to campus. The threat was determined to be not credible.
The Shelter-in-Place at Thomas S. Wootton HS has been lifted as of 10:48 am. 911 emergency services have completed their assessment and deemed this a non-credible threat. Classes and other activities have resumed as planned inside our building.
