Montgomery County Public Schools’ request for a waiver from the Maryland State Department of Education following weather-related closures from the previous storm was denied. Since then, an additional day has been added to extend the school year for students to Friday, June 26th.

Update: The State of Maryland corrected its previous press release to reflect that liberal leave is in effect for Maryland State Government after previously stating it was closed.

Governor Wes Moore declared a State of Emergency Sunday afternoon as a powerful winter storm was forecast to impact Maryland from Sunday evening through Monday, February 23.

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for parts of Maryland (including NW Montgomery County) and Northern Virginia from 3pm Sunday through 10am Monday. The warning includes Frederick County and Northwest Montgomery County in Maryland, along with Eastern and Western Loudoun counties in Virginia.

Heavy snow is expected in the warning area, with general accumulations of 3 to 6 inches. Higher elevations above 1,000 feet could see significantly higher totals, ranging from 6 to 12 inches. Winds may gust as high as 35 mph, which could lead to blowing snow and reduced visibility at times.
