The Upper Montgomery County Volunteer Fire Department is hosting their fall open house, along with a local vendor fair, this Sunday (October 8) from 12PM to 4PM at 19801 Beallsville Road Beallsville, MD 20839. According to the UMCVFD, the event will feature a pumpkin patch, hay rides, Fire & Rescue Service demonstrations, and police vehicles on display. Additionally more than 30 vendors will be present at this Sunday’s event. Visitors can enjoy free hot dogs, Cotton Candy, and giveaways for children.

At their newly-expanded Beallsville Road firehouse, the Upper Montgomery County VFD currently has an ambulance, Canteen Unit, several boats paired with support vehicles as part of their Swiftwater Rescue Team, Medic Unit, Brush Truck, Brush Engine, Rescue Engine, and Tanker. The units responded to more than 1,200 calls in 2022.


Around 45 firefighters responded to a house fire in the 13300 block of Country Ridge Dr, near Club Hill Drive in Germantown on Wednesday, October 4. According to Chief Spokesperson for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services Pete Piringer, the fire was caused by a candle that was on a nightstand in a bedroom closet.

All occupants made it out of the home safely and there were no injuries reported. Damage is estimated to be ~$40,000. Three adults and one kitten have been displaced. We will provide an update if additional information becomes available.


The preliminary investigation has revealed that the driver of the Jeep was making a U-Turn from westbound Veirs Mill Road to continue eastbound on Veirs Mill Road. The operator of the motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Veirs Mill Road when it collided with the back of the jeep.


The Gaithersburg Washington Grove Volunteer Fire Department (GWGVFD) will be hosting its family-friendly open house on Sunday, October 8th at 801 Russell Avenue in Gaithersburg from 12pm until 4pm. The event will offer experiences for the entire family, including food, beverages, and music provided by the department. There will be be fire safety demonstrations, a moon bounce, the opportunity to climb onto a firetruck, and meet and greets with firefighters, EMTs, and Sparky the mascot.

Since 1927 the Gaithersburg Washington Grove Volunteer Fire Department has served the communities of Gaithersburg, Washington Grove, Derwood and Montgomery Village.  The GWGVFD operates two stations with both volunteer and career personnel. Their volunteers are involved operationally as Firefighters, Paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians. They also have administrative volunteers with many of their members having served for more than 20 years.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) have responded to a crash that occurred on Monday morning on Georgia Avenue, near Janet Rd. in the Glenmont area.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, several people are being evaluated for non-life threatening injuries. There is a fuel spill and debris in the roadway that has some lanes on Georgia Avenue blocked as of 10am.


Montgomery County Police is investigating a fatal collision that occurred Sunday evening.  According to police, “At approximately 7:57 p.m., on Sunday, October 1, 2023, officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the 12800 block of Veirs Mill Road for the report of a fatal traffic collision involving a motorcycle and a vehicle. The adult male operating the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the striking vehicle remained on scene.

The Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) is investigating the collision. A news release will be distributed once more information becomes available, including the name of the deceased, following proper notification of next of kin.” We will provide an update when additional information is available. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a vehicle fire on I-270 on Sunday, October 1 around 5pm. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the fire occurred on southbound I-270 between Montrose Road and Old Georgetown Road, in the area of the split. The fire has been extinguished and there are no injuries reported. Some lanes are currently blocked.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) responded to The Grand Condos at 5801 Nicholson Ln in Rockville around 7pm on Saturday, September 30 for the initial report of smoke in the building.  According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, firefighters located a dumpster on fire in a basement trash room which led to smoke on several upper level floors. The fire was extinguished and the basement is being ventilated.

There were no injuries and no residents have been displaced. Code Enforcement and the alarm/sprinkler company has been notified.  We will provide an update if additional information becomes available.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a collision involving a scooter rider on Saturday, September 30 in Layhill. According to police, “MCPD responded to the area of Bel Pre Road and Layhill Road at approximately 7:44 p.m., for the report of a two-vehicle collision involving a scooter. The adult male driver of the scooter has been transported to an area hospital with life threatening injuries. The driver of the striking vehicle remained on scene.”

MCPD posted the following on Twitter at 8:41pm: “TRAFFIC ADVISORY: A traffic collision has eastbound Bel Pre Road closed at Layhill Road. Drivers are advised to seek an alternate route. Expect delays.”


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to an overturned heavy equipment/excavator with fuel spill at the C&O Canal, about one mile north of Swains Lock in Travilah.  According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the incident resulted in fuel spilling into the canal and HazMat is currently assisting. There were no injuries reported. We will provide an update if additional information becomes available.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a call for a collision involving three vehicles at approximately 6am at W. Diamond Ave and Bureau Dr. at the NIST entrance on Tuesday morning.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, three patients were evaluated. All three sustained non-life threatening injuries. Some lanes were blocked due to the crash with residual delays. The crash is under investigation.
