The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services will host its first “Colorectal Cancer Awareness Walk for Life” on Friday, March 20 from 11 am to 1 pm at Martin Luther King, Jr. Recreational Park in Silver Spring. The free event will focus on raising awareness about colorectal cancer prevention and the importance of early detection, with on-site registration beginning at 10:30 am.

An Extreme Cold Alert has been issued for Montgomery County from Tuesday, March 17 at 3pm through Wednesday, March 18 at 11am, as wind chill values are expected to fall below 32 degrees. Officials are urging residents to dress in layers, limit time outdoors when possible, and take precautions if they must spend extended periods outside.

The Montgomery County Council will meet Tuesday, March 17 at 9:15 am, beginning with a proclamation recognizing National Theatre Day. During the session, the Council is expected to vote on zoning amendments aimed at expanding eligibility for biohealth campuses and mixed-income housing projects, review major portions of the FY27 to FY32 Capital Improvements Program including transportation, housing, stormwater, libraries, police facilities, and WSSC Water infrastructure, and hold a public hearing on a proposal to lease retail space at the Wheaton M-NCPPC headquarters to Silver Branch Brewing Company.
