Many of you probably saw some “mood flakes” today that didn’t accumulate and were harmelss in regards to impact on roads. Tomorrow morning may be a little different as the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory from 7am until 11am Thursday for most of the area. MCPS Weather Update: MCPS Monitoring Weather and Will Update Community by 5:00 AM Thursday, Feb. 20

We are closely monitoring the weather forecast for Thursday, February 20, which indicates the possibility of light snow accumulation beginning tomorrow morning and ranging from a dusting to an inch. Our team will actively assess conditions overnight and, if necessary, will provide an update by 5:00 a.m. on Thursday morning.


The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Storm Watch for St. Mary’s County in southern Maryland from 10am Wednesday morning until early Thursday morning, but projected snow totals have decreased for the rest of the state.

The National Weather Service (NWS) still has the entire area under an “elevated” snow risk for Wednesday and Thursday. The “elevated” risk is defined by the NWS as “Considerable snow and/or sleet accumulation will cause significant travel disruptions.”

Due to how finicky our winter weather can be, a storm showing up on a model a week or more out isn’t usually mentioned by local meteorologists. Thursday’s potential storm, however, has had a strong enough signal to be mentioned by most as we move within five days away from the possible snowstorm.
