Montgomery Parks has officially opened the Royce Hanson Conservation Park, a 475-acre natural haven located at 21820 Club Hollow Road in Poolesville. Named in honor of former Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission chairman Dr. Royce Hanson, the park stands as a tribute to his leadership in preserving Montgomery County’s Agricultural Reserve and advancing smart growth policies that protected farmland and open space.

Sugarloaf Mountain, located in Frederick County and overlooking Montgomery County, stands not because it was built up, but because everything around it was worn away. A 55-year-old Florida woman visiting family in Dickerson died Saturday after being shot in a residence on Mt. Ephraim Road.

According to Montgomery County Police, “On Friday, Sept. 12, 2025, at approximately 4:05 p.m., 5th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue Service personnel responded to a residence in the 23000 block of Mt. Ephraim Road for the report of a shooting.


On Wednesday, Sept. 3, MCDOT began an emergency closure of Wasche Road from W. Hunter Road to Martinsburg Road in Dickerson to replace failing twin corrugated pipes with twin concrete pipes, with local traffic allowed up to 19754 Wasche Road, a signed detour in place, weekday work hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the closure expected to last about three weeks.
