J&J Mex-Taqueria first opened in DC about a decade ago. The restaurant has since opened additional locations and is currently in a soft opening phase at Commas Food Hall in Ellsworth Place Mall (8661 Colesville Rd. Silver Spring, MD). While J&J operated at nearby Solaire Social (that stall is now known as Ay Mamma), diners shared that the J&J Supreme burrito is the “best burrito in Maryland and DC”– a distinction that was echoed by fellow stall operators at Solaire.

Earlier this year, the popular Mackie’s Barbecue announced the closure of its Clarksburg, Frederick, and Olney locations, effective January 10th, to concentrate on expanding its catering and online delivery services through its Gaithersburg location. Now, approximately six months later, owner Cam Makki has revealed plans for Mackie’s to make a comeback in Olney with a seasonal food truck.

Commas Food Hall, a new 13,000-square-foot venue located on the third level of Ellsworth Place (8661 Colesville Rd) in Downtown Silver Spring, is currently in a “super soft” opening phase. Max’s Best Ice Cream is gearing up to open its doors at 7770 Woodmont Ave in Bethesda, MD. The much-anticipated shop is scheduled to welcome its first customers on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, and will be offering a free scoop of ice cream to the first 50 customers.

Xi’an Famous Foods, a renowned New York City culinary institution, is celebrated for bringing the bold and unique flavors of Xi’an, China, to the American palate. According to a report by Washingtonian, the popular eatery that has been endorsed by the likes of the late Anthony Bourdain is now searching for a location in Maryland, with Montgomery County (Rockville) as a potential spot.

Maryland’s first Hey Tea is celebrating its grand opening at 891-F Rockville Pike in Wintergreen Plaza. The new Rockville location occupies the former space of Sweetfrog, situated between Wingstop and Paisano’s Pizza. Much like the Tysons Corner store, where lines stretched around the corner in its first month or two, today’s launch saw a line that extended down the shopping center and around the corner (video below).
