Shibuya Eatery has earned a place on Eater DC’s October 2025 “Best New Restaurants Around D.C.” list, standing out as the only Maryland restaurant to be recognized. The Japanese concept from chef Darren Lee Norris debuted its Chevy Chase location at 4461 Willard Avenue last month, bringing a fresh fast-casual model to Montgomery County.
After a few months of no movement, Dave’s Hot Chicken is officially on its way to Rockville, with “Coming Soon” signage now up at its second Montgomery County location. The California-based chain, which made its county debut in White Oak in November 2024, will soon open at 11564 Rockville Pike in the Metro Pike Shopping Center. An exact date is not yet available.
On the Takoma Park/Takoma DC border, an upcoming restaurant will be carrying the flavors and spirit of the Appalachian Mountains to the community. Phia, founded by local restaurateur and SOKO founder Brad Feickert, will be more than a place to eat, it’s a tribute to family, heritage, and tradition.

Shouk, the plant-based kosher street food restaurant known for its award-winning Shouk Burger, has closed both of its remaining locations permanently (Rockville and DC).
As the federal government shutdown begins, local restaurants are rolling out special offers to help ease the burden on impacted employees. Nan Xiang Soup Dumplings, a Michelin-recommended Shanghainese restaurant with roots in New York, has opened at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda. The restaurant is currently in its soft opening phase and will operate daily from 12 pm to 8 pm. A ‘first look’ video is available below.
One of the most infamous episodes of Bar Rescue took Jon Taffer to Silver Spring, MD, where he confronted the struggling Piratz Tavern, located at 8402 Georgia Avenue. The pirate-themed bar sat in a prime downtown spot surrounded by office buildings, but its gimmick-heavy atmosphere, inconsistent service, and unprofessional staff alienated the very customers who might have kept it afloat. Bethesda’s biggest food festival is back this fall. The 33rd annual Taste of Bethesda takes place on Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Woodmont Triangle, bringing together some of the area’s best restaurants, live entertainment, family activities, and more.
