Montgomery County is reminding residents that the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is offering free back-to-school vaccinations for children from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade at multiple locations across the County through the end of September. These vaccines are available at no cost to County residents missing any required immunizations, and parents are encouraged to schedule an appointment to ensure their children are ready for the 2025-2026 school year. MCPD Update: “At approximately 9:46 p.m., 3rd District officers responded to Long Branch Local Park in the 700 block of Langley Drive, for reports of shots fired. Officers located two adult males with apparent gunshot wounds near the rear of the basketball court by the playground.

One victim was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. His current status has not been confirmed. Despite life-saving efforts, the second victim was pronounced dead at the scene. At this time, no suspect information is available and no arrests have been made. A news release will be distributed once more information is available, including the name of the decedent, following proper next-of-kin notification.” (more…)


The 11th annual Montgomery County “Friendship Picnic” will again bring people of many cultures and faiths together to celebrate the County’s diversity. The free picnic, whose goal is to enable people to make new friends and build a stronger community, will be held from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 14, at Wheaton Regional Park.

A significant collision occurred this morning on the eastbound lanes of MD200 (ICC) between New Hampshire Avenue and Route 29. The incident involved a pedestrian in the highway work zone, causing immediate response from several emergency services.

Detectives with the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division, Missing Person and Cold Case Section have arrested a Silver Spring man in connection with a 2022 homicide at the Summit Hills apartment complex in Silver Spring, MD. A mugshot was not provided by police.
