On August 10, at approximately 4:30 pm, the Takoma Park Police Department responded to a report of indecent exposure in the 7000 block of Westmoreland Avenue (People’s Book).
The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) has released surveillance video of a suspect wanted in connection with an August 2, 2025, stabbing near the intersection of Fern Street and University Boulevard West in Wheaton that left a male victim hospitalized in critical but stable condition. California Tortilla has closed its location at 10721 Columbia Pike in Shoppes of Burnt Mills shopping center in Silver Spring. The restaurant is listed as permanently closed on Google Business and no longer appears on the California Tortilla website.

Silver Spring Historical Society members have measured the historic acorn gazebo in Acorn Urban Park (8075 Newell St) in Silver Spring, MD, determining it surpasses Oak Hill, Ohio’s recently erected acorn statue, which measures 12 feet in diameter and 15 ½ feet in height, and was promoted as the world’s largest acorn display. Built in 1850 by Silver Spring founder Francis Preston Blair, the structure measures 14.058 feet in diameter and 17 feet ¾ inches in height, exceeding Oak Hill’s by over two inches in diameter and more than two feet in height. Charley’s Cheesesteaks & Wings is preparing to open its doors in the Woodmoor Shopping Center, according to the Regency Centers leasing website. The new restaurant will be located at 10121 Colesville Road, between the beloved Woodmoor Pastry Shop and Bento Express, taking over for the closed UPS Store and adding to the diverse mix of dining options in the popular center that also includes the recently opened Nash & Smashed, Santucci’s Deli, and more.
Mezcal Cantina is now open at 8777 1st Ave. in Silver Spring. The new restaurant, a rebranding of the former Tacos Way Mexican Grill, brings an expanded menu and a fresh twist on traditional Mexican dishes.
