Beginning on or about September 22, 2025, Sligo Creek Parkway, south of Wayne Avenue, will be closed for approximately two months as Purple Line crews begin track installation at the intersection. Pedestrian access will remain open through the closure.

On Thursday night, officers from the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) were involved in an incident that unfolded on Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring. At approximately 8:16 pm, officers from the 3rd District attempted to initiate a traffic stop after identifying a stolen license plate on a vehicle suspected to be stolen. The location of the attempted stop was 9520 Georgia Ave.
Montgomery County Police Department’s 3rd District officers are on the scene of an assault, preliminarily reported as a stabbing, at the intersection of Fenton Street and Ellsworth Drive in Silver Spring on Thursday afternoon.
After 16 years of operation, Bete Ethiopian Cuisine & Cafe, a beloved staple of downtown Silver Spring, has permanently closed its doors. The restaurant, located at 811 Roeder Road, has been cleared of its interior fixtures and furniture, according to Source of the Spring.
An enduring chapter in Wheaton’s dining history has come to a close. Cristina Ristorante Italiano, the beloved neighborhood Italian restaurant that has been a staple for over two decades, closed its doors permanently on Monday after making the decision to not renew the expiring lease.

On August 25, at approximately 4:10 pm, Takoma Park Police responded to the parking lot in the 7600 block of New Hampshire Avenue following a report of an armed robbery.
DC Metro has the most escalators (and elevators) of any transit system in North America with a total of 674. Metro’s longest escalator is at the Wheaton station right here in Montgomery County.
