Today, the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) announced the 2025-27 Purple Star Schools from eight school systems, recognizing their strong services and support for students from military families. The 23 schools, including one in Montgomery County (Glen Haven Elementary School in Wheaton), will be recognized at Tuesday’s State Board of Education meeting.

Montgomery County will host the 10th annual GreenFest on Saturday, April 26, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Marian Fryer Plaza in Wheaton. The event will feature exhibits on environmental topics, electric vehicles, live music, family activities, and a household battery recycling drop-off, along with recognition of local individuals and organizations for their sustainability efforts. Unibal-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) has defaulted on a roughly $235 million securitized loan tied to Westfield Wheaton– the largest mall in suburban Maryland and the fourth-largest in the Greater Washington area. The mall was originally built in 1958 and was known as Wheaton Plaza– the first shopping mall in Montgomery County.

Montgomery Parks is unveiling an accessible viewing platform at Brookside Gardens, overlooking the Gude Garden, the popular Japanese-style landscape featuring a teahouse, rolling hills, and ponds. A ribbon-cutting for the new amenity will take place April 15, 2025, at 10am.

Eater DC has unveiled its list of “The Most Iconic Dishes Around D.C.,” which features three standout dishes from Maryland restaurants (two in Montgomery County). According to Eater, these dishes are so irresistible that new customers travel long distances to try them, tourists specifically seek them out, and regulars continue to order them even when they feel it’s time to explore something new.
