A Maryland man from Montgomery County pleaded guilty today to assaulting law enforcement during the Jan. 6, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol. His actions and the actions of others disrupted a joint session of the U.S. Congress convened to ascertain and count the electoral votes related to the 2020 presidential election.

Beyond MoCo

EDENS, which operates the recently updated Burtonsville Crossing, Cabin John Village, and more here in Montgomery County, announced today the opening of the first of three new anchor retail partners at Crofton Station in Gambrills, MD (Anne Arundel County). Several new businesses are set to open this year, including The Fresh Market, Michaels and Snap Fitness.

Umi Hot Pot, Sushi & Seafood Buffet opened last Friday in Rockville and has been drawing huge crowds with waits often exceeding an hour for dinner service. The highly anticipated restaurant has taken the space that was recently home to Miller’s Ale House and previously home to Hooters and Shakey’s at 1471 Rockville Pike in Rockville. Rockville Police

The Rockville City Police Department, in partnership with the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, will hold a gun buyback event on Saturday, August 17, at RedGate Park (14500 Avery Road). Participants will receive a $100 Visa gift card for functional handguns, rifles, and shotguns, and $200 in Visa gift cards for functional assault-style weapons and privately manufactured firearms (ghost guns).

Beyond MoCo

The Big Dill, which describes itself as the “#1 Pickle Party in the World”, returns to Power Plant Live! at 34 Market Pl in Baltimore on September 21. In past years the event has included pickle sampling, concerts, carnival games, a pickle eating contest, a brine chugging competition, and an appearance by “Dilly” the pickle.  Items available to purchase have included pickle flavored cupcakes, donuts, fudge, ice cream, and pizza.  (more…)
