Per Montgomery County: The Montgomery County Government, and programs that impact County residents, will have schedule and program changes for the New Year’s Weekend, Saturday, Dec. 31, through Monday, Jan. 2.


Crime

Per USPIS: The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect who robbed a United States Postal Service letter carrier at 1215 East West Highway, Silver Spring, MD 20910. The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m. on December 28, 2022.

The suspect is desribed as a Black male in his late 20s, aproximately 5’10” tall and of average build. The suspect was wearing a black shirt, black pants, and black and white Puma shoes. The suspect was carrying an orange jacket. The suspect fled in a red vehicle, possibly a Jeep Cherokee or Jeep Compass. Silver Spring

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing 14-year-old from Silver Spring.  Catherine Madrid Flores was last seen on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at approximately 8:30 p.m., in the 100 block of Colony Road.

Catherine is approximately 5-feet, 3-inches tall and weighs 110 pounds. She has long black hair with red highlights and brown eyes.  Catherine was last seen wearing a gray long sleeve shirt, blue jeans and white sneakers. Police and family are concerned for her welfare.


North Bethesda

The new intersection of Old Georgetown Road, Towne Road and Executive Blvd. in North Bethesda, near Pike & Rose, opened to traffic earlier this week.

The Towne Rd extension provides a new connection (parallel to MD-355 Rockville Pike) between Executive Blvd/Josiah Henson Parkway/Montrose Rd. The project also constructed a new cycle track and shared use path (asphalt trail) along the Western edge of Pike & Rose. Tragically, in 2020, 61-year-old James O’Connor was struck and killed by an errant driver while working on utility improvements associated with the project.


WMATA

Per MCDOT: Red Line Trains will be single tracking between the Silver Spring and Forest Glen stations due to leak mitigation work. The work will take place between Saturday, December 31 through Monday, January 2.

Per Metro: Metro has transitioned to a new program of preventive maintenance and planned capital work. Overnight and weekend hours will be used for enhanced preventive maintenance including cable testing to prevent smoke and fire incidents, stray current testing, trackbed cleaning, switch maintenance, torqueing (tightening fasteners, joint nuts and bolts) to eliminate excessive strain on infrastructure, and track geometry work to ensure the correct rail alignment.


Glenmont

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing 17-year-old from Glenmont.  Jamillah Haynes was last seen on Thursday, December 22, 2022, at approximately 4 p.m., in the 12600 block of Georgia Avenue.

Haynes is approximately 4-feet, 10-inches tall and weighs 90 pounds. She brown eyes and black hair, possibly styled in braids. She was last seen wearing a black coat, a crop top and black leggings. Police and family are concerned for her welfare.


Rockville

Work continues on Phase One of Twinbrook Quarter, the upcoming development located on the southwest corner of the property at Rockville Pike and Halpine Road. It includes residential, office and commercial space, and will include Montgomery County’s second Wegmans (video of construction from this week available below).

Mid November update: Level 4 concrete pouring is scheduled for completion by the end of November. Levels 1 – 4 will define the space for Wegmans, other retail amenities, and the parking garage. Framing for concrete on Level 5 began last week. From this point on, all future levels will be devoted to the apartment building, going up to the 12th floor. Conditions and weather permitting, the hope is to complete pouring all levels by late Spring/early Summer 2023. Construction on the building façade should begin in early 2023. Wegmans itself is not expected to open until at least 2024. Germantown

Montgomery County Police responded to reports of shots fired in Germantown around 12:20AM on Thursday. According to public safety reporter Cordell Pugh, multiple residents called 911 reporting shots fired on Crystal Rock Drive, near Waters Landing Drive and Waters Landing Local Park. MCP Officers found several shell casings in the area. We will post an update if additional information becomes available.

Per MCPD: “Preliminary, at approximately 12:30 a.m., officers responded to the area of Crystal Hill Cir. and Crystal Rock Dr. and found shell casings. No victims were reported. ”


Highways / Interstates

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue responded to two separate collisions in between Connecticut Avenue and Rockville Pike/NB I270 on Thursday morning around 8am. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the first collision involved multiple vehicles, including one vehicle that hit the median/jersey wall/divider.

The second collision on the OL I495, prior to exit/split to NB I270, involved an overturned vehicle. One adult is  is being transported by EMS with Priority 2 trauma. Some lanes are currently blocked prior to exit 34 and drivers should expect delays. We will post an update when additional information becomes available.
