Montgomery County Alcohol Beverage Services will open registration on Nov. 30 for two limited availability whiskey lotteries that give residents and alcohol license holders a chance to purchase more than 500 bottles of highly allocated spirits, including George T. Stagg 2024 Bourbon, Heaven Hill Heritage 19 Year Bourbon, and Angel’s Envy Cellar Collection Vol. 5 Rye.

MCFRS

Wootton High School in Rockville was evacuated Monday morning after staff reported a gas smell near the building’s boiler room. Students and staff were directed out of the building around the start of the school day and moved to outdoor athletic areas as a precaution.

DMV

Metro has officially launched the first phase of its revamped bike parking program, introducing new app-based bike lockers now available at the Foggy Bottom and Eastern Market Metrorail stations. The rollout marks the beginning of a multi-year upgrade aimed at making bike-to-rail travel easier, safer, and more convenient for riders across the region.

Metrobus riders across the region can now pay their fares with a simple tap. Metro has officially expanded its “Tap. Ride. Go.” contactless payment system to all Metrobus routes, allowing customers to use a contactless credit or debit card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay directly on bus farebox readers.

Bethesda

Wetzel’s Pretzels has officially begun construction on its upcoming location at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda. In May, we shared that the pretzel chain was on the way, with signage posted at the site indicating a fall opening. The timeline has shifted slightly, but progress is now underway after Wetzel’s Pretzels recently received its permit to begin building out the space.

A new Toys“R”Us flagship store is expected to open at Arundel Mills mall in Hanover by the end of the month, according to a mall employee who spoke with us on Sunday. While an exact opening date has not yet been announced, the store is described as opening “very soon,” placing Maryland among the first states to receive one of the brand’s new full-scale locations.
