Three Montgomery County sisters who were recently featured in Essence Magazine say they are working to reclaim land in Potomac once owned by their great-great-grandfather, William Dove, a formerly enslaved man who purchased 36 acres in the late 1800s. According to a press release announcing their efforts, much of that land was later taken from the family through discriminatory practices and eminent domain.

In the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, Maryland, Judge Theresa Chernosky found Iris Alonzo-Salgado, 24, of Frederick, guilty of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, and participating in a criminal organization resulting in death.

North Bethesda

Back in May 2024, we reported that Mui, a modern Japanese-inspired restaurant, would be joining the Pike & Rose lineup in North Bethesda. Earlier this year, the project took a major step forward when the restaurant secured a construction permit valued at $550,000 in February. Now, Mui has its hearing for a new Liquor License (On-Sale Only) for its future home at 967 Rose Avenue.

Layhill

A grandfather from Silver Spring won $770,000 after discovering his Multi-Match ticket had matched all six numbers more than a week after purchasing it at Bel Pre Beer & Wine, 2251 Bel Pre Road. The winner, who claimed the prize on November 14, said his grandchildren will benefit from his winnings, while the retailer received a $1,000 bonus for selling the jackpot ticket.
