The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) announced that Ride On Route 56 in Gaithersburg is experiencing a detour at Edison Park Drive and Main Street due to construction, with the rerouting expected to remain in effect through late September.

Gaithersburg native and Watkins Mill High School Class of 2000 graduate Mike Morini has released his debut book, Mild PTSD, an unflinching exploration of the emotional and physical toll of war. Morini, who enlisted in the U.S. Army shortly before the September 11 attacks, draws from his deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan to paint an unvarnished picture of life in combat and its lingering effects.

Join Kaiser Permanente for Healthy at the Harbor, a free community health and wellness event taking place Saturday, June 6, from 11 am to 4 pm at National Harbor in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Crime

Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) detectives from the Special Victims Investigations Division have arrested and charged 49-year-old Charles Newton Townsend IV of Gaithersburg with multiple sex offenses involving a child at the Quince Orchard Library and are asking anyone with additional information to contact investigators.

Beyond MoCo

In October, we reported that Zaxbys was entering the Maryland market with three locations along the Eastern Shore. Then, this past spring, Zaxbys announced that it’s planning to open four additional restaurants across Baltimore and Howard counties. Now, Biz Journals reports that the Prince George’s County Planning Board approved the county’s first Zaxby’s location.
