Gaithersburg residents will cast their ballots for Mayor and two City Council Members on Tuesday, November 4, 2025. All Council Members serve at-large. The terms of office for Mayor Jud Ashman and Council Members Lisa Henderson and Jim McNulty expire in November. The Mayor and City Council Members elected in 2025 will each serve a four-year term. Per the news release distributed on Wednesday, June 4: “Attorney General Anthony G. Brown today joined 18 other attorneys general in filing an amicus brief in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, supporting the right of the American people to cast their ballots free from racial discrimination. The brief, filed in Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians v. Howe, specifically argues in defense of the ability of private citizens to file lawsuits to enforce Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act (VRA) when their rights are violated. (more…)

The Takoma Park Police Department and other agencies across Maryland warn that this type of text message is a scam called smishing.

Education

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) is actively engaged in a significant boundary study, prompted by the upcoming openings of Crown High School and Woodward High School, as well as the planned expansion of Damascus High School. Our very own “Mr. MoCo” Alex Tsironis joined FOX 5 to discuss the proposed adjustments that are critical for populating the new and expanded facilities and for addressing persistent overcrowding in existing schools across the county (video below).

Rockville

Jason West has been appointed as Rockville’s new police chief, City Manager Jeff Mihelich announced on June 4, following a national search and community input process. A 25-year law enforcement veteran, West has served as acting chief since October and previously held leadership roles within the Rockville City Police Department and the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office.

Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown joined a multistate coalition in filing an amicus brief supporting Michigan’s law banning licensed health professionals from practicing conversion therapy on minors, arguing it is harmful, ineffective, and falls below accepted standards of care.
