The 16th annual Gaithersburg Book Festival will take place on Saturday, May 17, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Bohrer Park in Gaithersburg. The event is free to attend, and free parking options are available but limited, so attendees are encouraged to use the recommended free shuttle service running continuously from 9:15 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. between the Montgomery County Fairgrounds (501 Perry Parkway) and the Shady Grove Metro Station (355 side). The Montgomery County Students Construction Trades Foundation and MCPS hosted an Open House in Silver Spring showcasing the ongoing construction of the 44th student-designed home, highlighting the hands-on work of over 300 high school students in trades like carpentry, plumbing, and electrical, with attendance from local leaders and industry partners. Maryland

Governor Wes Moore this afternoon declared a State of Emergency to strengthen the state’s coordinated response to historic flood damage in Western Maryland. The governor announced the State of Emergency declaration during his visit to Allegany County to survey the major damage incurred as the result of Tuesday’s statewide storm activity.

Maryland

Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced an independent audit of Maryland’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, finding that more than half of reviewed cases had differing determinations of manner of death, including several from Montgomery County that were reclassified as homicides.
