The snow has moved out of our area after dropping a half inch to 3 inches across the DMV. Here in Montgomery County, a general 1-2.5 inches fell, according to observations taken in the last six hours by trained spotters for the National Weather Service (NWS). The totals can be seen below (not every area is included):

HONORING THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF 9/11
Newly announced, the festival will open on Friday evening, September 11, with a special tribute honoring the 25th anniversary of 9/11. All three bands performing that evening include veterans and active-duty military members.
Be sure to visit Old Fireman’s BBQ Food Truck and meet a firefighter who was on-site at the Pentagon on that fateful day. We are offering special pricing for first responders and military.

Taking place alongside the Maryland Seafood Festival, Skipjack Heritage Days invites families to discover the stories and traditions of the Chesapeake Bay through hands-on activities, educational exhibits and public sails aboard historic skipjacks.
The weekend culminates with a Sunday skipjack race that guests can watch from the festival grounds at East Beach. Skipjacks are living history and icons of our region—this is a rare opportunity to experience them up close.

Maryland has detected a case of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in a Caroline County broiler operation, marking the first case in a Maryland commercial poultry facility since 2023, prompting quarantines, bird depopulation, and heightened biosecurity measures to prevent disease spread. On August 22, the New Neighbor Interfaith Alliance (NNIA) will host the 2026 Set Them Up for Success Volleyball Tournament and Family Fun Day from 9 am-4 pm at the Interdenominational Church of God in Gaithersburg, gathering volleyball teams, faith community members, and the public to raise funds to help recent refugees in Montgomery County attain independence.
An interfaith non-profit alliance of 37 faith communities and civic groups, NNIA raises funds to help resettled refugees with rental assistance, deferred medical care, English language skills and job placement. They also hope to expand their volunteer numbers to help more beneficiaries with job assistance, reliable transportation, and mentoring.

Kamran “Cam” Makki, owner of Mackie’s Barbecue, announced that the restaurant would be closing its Clarksburg, Frederick, and Olney locations effective January 10th as the business focuses on growing its catering and online delivery business.
Pete Piringer, who has been the Public Information Officer (PIO) for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) for more than a decade, was honored with the Politano Lifetime Achievement Award at the PIO symposium in Florida on Friday.
District 4 (4D) Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) Commander David Smith shared that this afternoon, officers from the 4th District responded to a robbery on Bel Pre Road, where a victim was forcibly robbed of their shoes.
MCPS shared that as part of the school system’s emergency weather procedures, meals were made available to children aged 18 and under (regardless of their enrollment status in the school district) at 18 sites across the county. Parents and guardians could also pick up these meals.

The Montgomery County Police Department has announced the arrest of 36-year-old Christopher Huser, a Rockville man, who has been charged in connection with the armed robbery of two 7-Eleven stores in Montgomery County in November 2024. (more…)
