Comstock Holding Companies announced today that it is partnering with SCG Development Holdings to form a joint venture that will develop an affordable housing project located on land currently owned by Comstock at 41 Maryland Avenue in Rockville, MD.

Jersey Mike’s Subs, a leading franchisor of fast-casual submarine sandwich stores known for its fresh sliced and fresh grilled subs, announced on Tuesday it has reached an agreement to be acquired by Blackstone for approximately $8 billion.
Back in September we let you know that L&L Hawaiian Barbecue will open its first Maryland location right here in Montgomery County at 785 Rockville Pike, Suite G, in the Ritchie Center (Rockville). The restaurant will take over the space formerly occupied by Superbowl Noodle House, which permanently closed in March. Now we know the restaurant plans to open in January 2025 or sooner, according to the restaurant.
On August 22, the New Neighbor Interfaith Alliance (NNIA) will host the 2026 Set Them Up for Success Volleyball Tournament and Family Fun Day from 9 am-4 pm at the Interdenominational Church of God in Gaithersburg, gathering volleyball teams, faith community members, and the public to raise funds to help recent refugees in Montgomery County attain independence.
An interfaith non-profit alliance of 37 faith communities and civic groups, NNIA raises funds to help resettled refugees with rental assistance, deferred medical care, English language skills and job placement. They also hope to expand their volunteer numbers to help more beneficiaries with job assistance, reliable transportation, and mentoring.

Boston Market closed its last remaining Montgomery County location at 3825 Aspen Hill Rd in Northgate Plaza (Aspen Hill) in October. The chain closed its Gaithersburg location back in April 2023 and also closed its White Oak location in early 2020. In Gaithersburg, JP Morgan Chase opened in the previous Boston market location just last month and now the replacement has signed on in Aspen Hill.

The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration has begun a $5.2 million safety and resurfacing project on a 2.76-mile stretch of MD 650 (New Hampshire Avenue), including upgrades to sidewalks, traffic barriers, signage, and drainage systems, with completion expected by next summer.
