MCFRS

Yesterday we let you know of three pedestrians (two children and one adult) who suffered non-life-threatening injuries on Friday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle being driven on Gaither Rd and Piccard Dr in Rockville.

We have learned from the mother of the children involved that their nanny’s heroic effort is the reason the children did not sustain more serious injuries. We have been told that the driver of a truck was allegedly speeding and did not make a complete stop at while making a right turn, but did remain on the scene.


Damascus

Update: Montgomery County Police report that one person has died as a result of the collision.

Two vehicles collided in a head-on crash at Ridge Rd and Kings Valley Rd in Damascus on Friday around 5pm, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Spokesperson Pete Piringer.


MCFRS

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded to a house fire on Shining Willow Dr in Travilah around 4:30 on Wednesday.

The fire began on the home’s rear porch and was likely caused by improperly discarded smoking materials, according to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer.


Chevy Chase

Three fires that have left two separate families displaced occurred overnight, according to MCFRS PIO Pete Piringer. The fires occurred in Takoma Park, Germantown, and a Chevy Chase. There were no injuries reported in any of the fires.

The first was a 2-alarm fire at 7401 New Hampshire Avenue in Takoma Park at the Hampshire Tower apartments. One family consisting of two children and two adults was displaced, and there was approximately $25k in damages. No word on the cause of the fire.


Rockville

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue services responded to a balcony fire Monday afternoon on the sixth floor of a condominium complex located on the 5700blk Bou Ave in Rockville.

The fire, which has been extinguished, was likely caused by combustibles too close to a heat source, and involved a storage container near a propane space heater and patio furniture, according to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer.


Rockville

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded to a fire Thursday evening around 7:30pm at Mayorga Organics (1029 E Gude Dr) in Rockville.

The fire was located inside a roaster machine and was contained to piping. There was light smoke in the building and several batches of burnt coffee.


Germantown

Update: All lanes of Frederick Rd/355 have reopened at Shakespeare Blvd.

Hazmat, police, and fire and rescue are currently on the scene of an overturned diesel fuel tanker (2500 gal) in Germantown in the area of Frederick Rd.  and Shakespeare Blvd., according to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer.
