Wheaton

The Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad Alumni Association is holding its annual Shrimp & Oyster Feast this Saturday, March 26, from 1-5pm at the Ballroom at Wheaton Glen (2400 Arcola Ave) in Wheaton.

Tickets include all you can eat steamed shrimp, fried oysters, shucked raw oysters, honey ham & sides, as well as sodas and draft beer. Tickets can be purchased here.


Events

Montgomery County’s GreenFest will take place on Saturday, April 23 from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm at Brookside Gardens ( 1800 Glenallan Ave) in Wheaton. The event is free and is a chance for residents, businesses, and nonprofits to share ideas, learn together, and have fun, according to Montgomery Parks.

Food truck options this year include Bun’d Up, Chix & Stix, Kona Ice, and Muscle BBQ.


Maryland

With the U.S. projected to spent nearly $600 billion on research & development (R&D) in 2022, the personal-finance website WalletHub recently released its report on 2022’s Most & Least Innovative States.

Maryland came in 4th, ranking in the top 5 in five different categories. Nearby Washington D.C. came in 1st place on the list, while Virginia came in 6th.


MoCo

The Premier Lacrosse League (PLL), founded by MoCo natives Mike and Paul Rabil, and ESPN have reached a four-year media rights agreement that will span the network’s broadcast, cable and streaming platform.

The recently retired Paul Rabil is widely considered the face of lacrosse. He attended Watkins Mill for a year, crediting his only lacrosse season there for helping him fall in love with the game, before heading over to Dematha and then Johns Hopkins for his NCAA career.


MoCo Celebs

Patrick “Pat” Goss was well known for his radio show Goss’ Garage and from television’s MotorWeek, where he hosted a segment with the same name.  The local radio and television personality passed away unexpectedly on March 19, 2022 at the age of 80.

Goss got his start as a mechanic at Rollins Park Shell in Rockville. He later owned and managed Goss’ Garage (previously Pat Goss Car World), an automobile repair shop in Lanham (Prince George’s County) where he helped a multitudes of car owners gain understanding and confidence about their cars.


Crime

Today in the District Court for Montgomery County, MD, defendant DeMarco Rayford, 25, of Montgomery Village, was ordered held without bond. He is accused of stabbing and killing Deante Foreman. A preliminary hearing is set for April 15th at 8:30 a.m.

A 21-year-old male was killed following an altercation outside of his residence on Reprise Drive in Rockville. On Monday, March 21, at approximately 9 p.m., Montgomery County Police 6th District officers responded to the 10100 block of Reprise Drive for the report of a shooting that just occurred.


Rockville

Per the Rockville City Police Department:

On March 23, 2022 at 7:00 a.m. Rockville City Police responded to 1251 W. Montgomery Avenue, the Best Western Hotel, for a report of child neglect. Hotel staff found three small children, ages 2, 6 and 11, sleeping alone in a hotel room with no parental supervision, and drug paraphernalia in close proximity to the children. During the course of the investigation officers were able to locate the mother of three children, and a man, asleep in a car in the hotel parking lot. Both appeared to be under the influence. The male subject was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The children are now in the care of Montgomery County Child Protective Services.
