Gaithersburg

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a call in the area of E. Diamond Ave and Railroad St. in Gaithersburg where they evaluated and pronounced dead a man who was struck and killed by a train at approximately 9:45pm on Thursday Night. Gaithersburg police say the pedestrian struck and killed matched the description of a stabbing suspect from earlier in the night.


Education

The Montgomery County Board of Education has tentatively adopted an Operating Budget for Fiscal Year 2025 that “maintains teaching and learning supports and strengthens accountability, while also being sensitive to the tough economic climate.”

Education

In December we let you know about Poolesville High School English teacher Melissa Adams hosting a tea party for her AP Literature classes in the Media Center at the school. Adams is also the organizer of a Literature March Madness tournament that has gained popularity in the school in recent years.

Germantown

Chick-fil-A in Germantown previously had plans to temporarily close its doors for approximately two weeks for renovations in December, but those plans were pushed back. The store has now received its permits and will be closing Saturday, February 24th at 2:00 pm for approximately 2 weeks.

Gaithersburg

Bach to Rock, a longtime tenant at 212 Boardwalk Place at Gaithersburg’s Rio Lakefront, will be moving from the location later this year. We spoke with a representative from Bach 2 Rock Gaithersburg who told us that the music school will be moving to the Kentlands later this year.

MCPS

Parkland Middle School Boys Basketball finished the 2024 winter season with a record of 5-1, the best record in the school’s history. Head Coach Brendan Flanagan and Assistant Coach Donald Fleming tell us, “We  are extremely proud of the whole team and the hard work they put into this year!”

DMV

AT&T’s network has been down for many of its customers across the country, including locally here in the DC Metropolitan Area on Thursday morning. The outage does not allow for customers to make/receive calls send receive texts, or access the internet without WiFi. Other phone services saw similar outages Thursday morning, but the spike has been seen in AT&T service, according to several news sources online.

MoCo Recreation

Construction on the South County Regional Recreation and Aquatic Center (1315 Apple Ave) began in 2019 and is now complete. The new facility, located in Downtown Silver Spring, will hold its grand opening on Saturday, February 24th at 10am and we have a few photos to give you a peek at the facility before the event, courtesy of Montgomery Recreation (additional photos below).
