MoCo Government

The Montgomery County Council will hold five committee meetings on March 6 to review infrastructure funding, health and human services appropriations, childcare renovation projects, MCPS attendance, and the Incubators NDA. Discussions will include a proposed Infrastructure Funding Workgroup, a $1.3 million opioid response grant, a $2.9 million crisis stabilization center pilot, and updates on school attendance and business incubator performance. Alert Montgomery issued the following on Wednesday, March 5, at 11:20am: “A Wind Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service for Central/Southeast Montgomery County until 4:00 pm Wednesday, 3/5. Expect wind gusts greater than 40 mph. Wind gusts of this magnitude will make driving high profile vehicle difficult, and cause loose outdoor objects to be blown around. Secure loose outdoor objects to prevent property damage.”

Maryland

According to Maryland Lottery and Gaming, Maryland’s six casinos combined to generate $155,150,298 in revenue from slot machines and table games during February 2025, a decrease of $4,076,380 (-2.6%) compared to February 2024. Casino gaming contributions to the state during February 2025 totaled $65,225,418, a decrease of $2,569,575 (-3.8%) compared to February 2024. The February 2025 contributions included $47,094,585 to the Education Trust Fund, a decrease of $1,808,122 (-3.7%) compared to February 2024. (more…)


Crime

The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) has arrested and charged 36-year-old Terron Christopher Matasaran of Bladensburg, MD with second-degree murder and first-degree child abuse in connection with the death of a 7-month-old infant. The arrest follows an autopsy ruling the infant’s death as a homicide, with investigators determining the child suffered a head injury and rib fractures while under Matasaran’s care.
