Lakeforest Mall Master Plan Draft

Lakeforest Mall Master Plan Draft

Monday night the Gaithersburg Mayor and City Council held a joint work meeting which included a presentation on the Lakeforest Mall Master Plan.

Back in October, WRS Inc., the owner of Lakeforest Mall (but not any of the pad sites), put a sign at the food court entrance of Lakeforest Mall that contained a “conceptual site plan” of what’s to come for the area which included 500-600 townhomes, 120-150 condominiums, 175-250 apartments (multi-family), and 400,000-500,000 square feet of retail space with 1,000 surface parking spots.

You can download a draft of the plan here: http://gaithersburgmd.iqm2.com/Citizens/FileOpen.aspx?Type=4&ID=5597

This is insane. The schools cannot handle this, the roads cannot handle this. By the time the county council is done it will be mainly apartments that don’t pay their way. The homeowners will be presented the bill while the developer walks away with a big check and the county council members see nice campaign donations.

I agree with Mr. Majane. This area is already crowded and congested. You took away our only shopping mall for more houses, etc. We don’t need more of that. I see that its all about money as usual. Pitiful and shameful

  4. I totally agree that streets can not handle the actual traffic and townhouses or apartments mean traffic congested. Why they don’t plan to redone another shopping center to attract the community.

  5. It’s the democrat way. this is what democrats do.

  6. It’s disheartening to learn of yet another housing development. There are already two new ones not far from where I live in Darnestown. And now this one at the old mall location. It’s already a slow and annoying drive through that area as it is.

This plan is just a way for those involved to make a killing on this space. I agree, the last thing that is needed in Gaithersburg, is more homes and more traffic congestion, especially in that already congested area. So many corrupt local government officials. I think a Hospital and Medical Center would be much better for the community.

  8. Very disappointing when local governments don’t pay attention or heed the desires of those they supposedly represent. More concrete and expensive housing isn’t what is wanted or needed. Gaithersburg Council voted against Affordable Senior housing at the Holiday Inn site that was favored by many.

  9. Orrrrrrrr we could just re model the mall since it’s the ONLY mall in Gaithersburg. There is plenty of other places to build homes why knock down the shopping center to build more homes when there are homes already surrounding that shopping center. They really just expect everyone to just go to Montgomery Mall and be jam packed in there? All the downed talk that Lakeforest had gotten over the years, the most they could have done was at least remodel it. they are doing way too much by just getting rid of it as a whole. BIG THUMBS DOWN – word from “The People”
