Construction is set to begin at Montgomery County’s first Barrio Burrito Bar, which will also be Maryland’s second location overall. We first reported on the upcoming restaurant more than a year ago and a Baltimore-area location has since opened.

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich addressed the shooting inside Wootton High School that occurred this past Monday, calling the incident “horrible” and extending thoughts to the victim and the Wootton community following a difficult week.

Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown criticized the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for issuing a final rule rescinding the 2009 Endangerment Finding, which had concluded that greenhouse gas emissions from motor vehicles contribute to climate change and harm public health.

Sherwood High School’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Revival is back for its 54th show, a tradition that has been going strong since 1971, with 2020 being the only year a live performance wasn’t held due to COVID-19 (a virtual show was produced instead). The event began when Sherwood students were inspired by a concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Since then, students audition for the show and spend months rehearsing with staff members to create a production that draws thousands of attendees each year.

An Extreme Cold Alert has been issued for Montgomery County, Maryland from Friday, 2/13 at 9pm until Saturday, 2/14 at 9am, due to wind chill values expected to fall below 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Officials are urging residents to wear layers, limit time outdoors when possible, and take extra precautions if spending extended time outside. (more…)


Gaithersburg

WRS, Inc. has confirmed to The MoCoShow that the first three retail tenants have officially signed on for the Lakeforest Redevelopment in Gaithersburg. The initial lineup includes a roughly 140,000SF Home Depot (located between the existing Germantown and Shady Grove locations), a 23,000SF Sprouts grocery store (the county’s second), and a smaller “boutique” 15,000SF Landmark Theatre (also the county’s second), as first reported by Maryland Newsletters.
