Current Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, who has been rumored to seek the Republican nomination for President of the United States in 2024, has told CBS News reporter Robert Costa that last night’s election results move him closer to a 2024 bid. Costa tweeted that Hogan told him “I felt like I was on a lifeboat all by myself” in the GOP “with everybody on the Trump Titanic. Now, we need a bigger boat” and is looking to lead the return of “normal Republicans.”

Costa went to to tweet, “Hogan said he was “getting calls all night” from donors and GOP officials. “They were saying it’s a good night for Larry Hogan,” he recalled with a laugh.” “I think there is a battle for which direction the Republican Party will go. My side of the party had a really good night. Trump’s side did not,”


Bethesda

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded and secured the area and gas station personnel on scene are currently awaiting a repair crew. There we no injuries reported and the excavator was not damaged. We will post an update when additional information becomes available.

Gaithersburg

Permanent signage has been erected and construction is ongoing at the upcoming Roaming Rooster at 511 Quince Orchard Rd in Gaithersburg. The restaurant will be located in space previously occupied by Duck Donuts in the Firstfield Shopping Center. Duck Donuts permanently closed in August. Roaming Rooster is known for its variety of buttermilk fried chicken sandwiches that vary in heat depending on the diner’s preferences – mild, medium or hot. In addition to its free-range, grain-fed, antibiotic-free and Halal chicken, Roaming Rooster offers an all week breakfast menu, salads and sides including wings, chicken tenders and hand-cut fries.

This will be the chain’s second Montgomery County location. Its Pike & Rose location at 11586 Old Georgetown Road in North Bethesda opened on June 21. No opening date for the new location has been announced.


Germantown

Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division have arrested and charged 24-year-old Kevin Figueroa-Funez, of Germantown, with the Capital One Bank robbery that occurred on November 8, 2022, in the 10200 block of River Rd. in Potomac.  At approximately, 1:51 p.m., 2nd District officers responded to the location for the report of a bank robbery that just occurred.

The investigation by detectives has determined that Figueroa-Funez entered the bank armed with a nail gun, approached an employee behind the counter and passed a note announcing the robbery and demanding money. The employee complied and handed over an undisclosed amount of money to Figueroa-Funez, who then left the scene.

The office of District of Columbia Attorney General Karl A. Racine has announced that he will hold a press conference at noon on Thursday, November 10th to “make a major announcement regarding the Washington Commanders.” This news comes one week after team owners Dan and Tanya Snyder announced they hired Bank of America Securities to explore options surrounding selling the team.

Bethesda

Per Montgomery County: The Arts and Social Justice Fellowship (ASJF), presented by Strathmore with Core Partner Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company,  is looking toward its second year of identifying a next generation of artists with activism. Applications for the 2023 program are now being accepted, with a deadline of Sunday, Nov. 20. The program supports youth leadership and vision at the intersection of arts and social change.

The fellowship centers youth leadership, young people’s vision of the future and building community in the face of crisis. It was created in 2021 as part of Strathmore and Woolly’s co-presentation of Octavia E. Butler’s Parable of the Sower by Toshi Reagon and Bernice Johnson Reagon. It is seeking young artists whose activism reflects Butler’s dynamic lineage. More about the program, and the application form, can be found at 2022 Highlights (strathmore.org). The fellowship will broaden in 2023 to include study of a series of performances taking place at each presenting institution.


Gaithersburg

Clear Skies Meadery has announced it will open its new meadery at 15201 Display Ct in Rockville on December 9. Clear Skies current location, which opened at 325 Main St. in Gaithersburg in 2020, is scheduled to remain open until March 31, 2023.

The new Rockville location will include a bigger production line that will allow the company to expand the canning and bottling of its product. Mead is an alcoholic beverage created by fermenting honey with water, sometimes with various fruits, spices, grains, or hops. Clear Skies offers a rotating list of flavors, including current seasonal ones like apple pie, cranberry, and pumpkin pie.


Damascus

The New Orleans Saints tried out free agent running backs Derrick Gore, Jaquan hardy, and Antonio Williams after releasing Jake Funk from the practice squad Tuesday, per the NFL’s transactions wire. Funk was signed to the Saints practice squad in October after being released by the Los Angeles Rams.

Jake Funk was drafted in the 7th round of the 2021 draft by the Los Angeles and won a Super Bowl with the team in his first year in the NFL. He remained with the team for the first part of the 2022 NFL season, but was released in early October before finding a new, but temporary, home in New Orleans.


Germantown

CAVA Digital Kitchen at 19865 Century Blvd in Germantown is scheduled to have its grand opening on Friday, November 18. CAVA Digital Kitchen differs from a traditional CAVA location in that there is no in-store ordering, all orders must be placed through the CAVA app. The restaurant does feature an indoor and outdoor dining area.

Per Montgomery County: Youth members of the LGBTQ+ community will tell their stories—and share the challenges they have faced—in a virtual town hall meeting sponsored by EveryMind from 6:30-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15. The panel members also will talk about support systems that have been helpful to them and offer ideas for improved support.

EveryMind, whose mission is to strengthen communities and empower individuals to reach optimal metal wellness, has structured the event to benefit parents, foster parents, caregivers, guardians, extended family members, mental health professionals and service providers who care for LGBTQ+ youth.
