In August, we let you know that Marlo Furniture will be closing all six of its locations permanently. An official closing date has not been set yet, but a representative at the Rockville location shared that the store will “definitely be closing by the end of the year.”

Bethesda

The Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad invites everyone to its annual Rescue Day (Fall Open House and Family Fun Day), this Saturday, October 18, from 11:00am through 4:00pm. Their Rescue Day will once again be held at at the corner of Battery Lane and Old Georgetown Road.

Visitors of all ages will be able to enjoy activities including inflatable axe throwing, engaging safety demonstrations, and a variety of food trucks.

MoCo Government

Two joint Montgomery County Council committees will meet Thursday, Oct. 16, to review legislation related to early care, education, and transportation improvements. The Education and Culture and Health and Human Services Committees will discuss bills refining the County’s Early Care and Education Coordinating Entity and eliminating certain child care positions, while the Transportation and Environment and Government Operations Committees will consider a $100,000 transportation study for the Clarksburg–Montgomery Village Corridor, an $11.6 million appropriation for Gaithersburg projects, and a new MOU on the use of impact tax funds for local transportation improvements. Event

General admission is $25 per person, which includes chili tastings. Free Admission for kids under 18, Police Officers and their Family is provided by MCPF). All proceeds benefit the Foundation’s mission to strengthen community-police relationships, support officers wellness, and enhance public safety initiatives across Montgomery County.

In addition to delicious chili, attendees can enjoy local craft beer from Lone Oak Brewery, family activities, and opportunities to meet and interact with Montgomery County police officers in a fun, relaxed setting.


Montgomery College

Montgomery College media production students, supported by Montgomery College Television, will represent U.S. community colleges in On Air, a 24-hour global student broadcast featuring participants from 17 colleges across six continents.

Attorney General Anthony G. Brown has joined a coalition of 18 attorneys general opposing the Trump administration’s proposal to require colleges and universities to submit detailed race-linked data on admissions, financial aid, and student outcomes.

Beyond MoCo

Kusshi Sushi, a Montgomery County-born restaurant brand known for its modern take on Japanese dining, will officially open its eighth location on Saturday, October 18th, at Reston Town Center in Northern Virginia. The opening marks another major milestone for the locally grown restaurant group, which first launched in Montgomery County and has since become one of the region’s most popular names in sushi.
