King Farm

Back in December 2023, we let you know that Aloha Poke, a Chicago-based poke restaurant chain, signed on to open its first Maryland location in Rockville’s King Farm neighborhood. Signage went up in the windows of the space at 800 Pleasant Dr. #100 in the spring of 2024, but there was never any additional movement. Now, it has been confirmed that Aloha Poke will not open, with a new tenant lined up.

MoCo Government

The Montgomery County Council’s Planning, Housing and Parks Committee will review ZTA 25-07 on September 15, which proposes prohibiting licensed cannabis dispensaries within 100 feet of residentially zoned property and making technical updates to retail use regulations. The committee will also discuss ZTA 25-09 on allowing alkaline hydrolysis, or water cremation, as part of funeral and interment services. (more…)

Two Maryland restaurants have landed on Washingtonian’s latest list of “5 New Breakfast and Brunch Spots to Check Out Around DC.Bouboulina in North Bethesda and Lapu Lapu, which has a location in Gaithersburg, are both drawing attention for their distinct approaches to the brunch experience.

Beyond MoCo

The District of Columbia State Athletic Association (DCSAA) has announced a new policy that will change how students attend high school football games this season. Effective immediately, all DCPS and DC Public Charter School students must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian in order to attend any regular season high school football game.

Crime

The Montgomery County Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating 33-year-old Deondray Darnell Osborne, who is wanted for attempted first-degree murder and related charges after allegedly firing multiple shots at a victim during a domestic violence incident in the 8000 block of 16th Street in Silver Spring in July. Cabin John

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded Thursday to a fatal house fire in the 7000 block of Persimmon Tree Road near Eggert Road in Cabin John.

According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, about 60 firefighters extinguished a basement fire and located an unconscious adult inside within minutes of arrival. Despite extensive efforts to revive the victim, the individual did not survive.
