Maryland

Governor Wes Moore has requested a Major Disaster Declaration from the White House to help Allegany and Garrett counties recover from mid-May flooding, which caused over $15.8 million in damage to homes, infrastructure, and public utilities, and could qualify the region for federal assistance and mitigation funding. Beyond MoCo

During our Ocean City vacations, we often visit Dumser’s Dairyland for a frozen treat (pictured you’ll see cherry-dipped soft serve from earlier this week). The beloved Maryland institution has deep roots in Ocean City that began in 1939 when Mrs. Gladys Dumser started crafting and selling her delicious homemade ice cream on the boardwalk. Her commitment to quality and freshness paved the way for a legacy that has grown over the decades.

Education

Earlier this week, Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) shared that beginning in the 2025–2026 school year, there will be revisions to grading and reporting at the secondary level. Student Member of the Board of Education, Praneel Suvarna, has shared that he is disappointed with the new regulations.

Montgomery County Government has issued a reminder that the County’s minimum wage will increase on July 1, 2025, with new rates based on employer size and adjusted for inflation in accordance with County law.
