A Montgomery County jury found Edgard Castro-Contreras, 21, guilty on charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder for his role in a 2022 gang-related shooting that killed o20-year-old Edvin Agustin Leon and critically injured another. He faces multiple life sentences plus 40 years at his August 2025 sentencing. The case involves several co-defendants linked to the MS-13 gang, with trials and sentencing still pending for others. The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD has announced that the deaths of a married couple found in their Chevy Chase home have been ruled a murder-suicide.
On Thursday, April 17, 2025 from 7pm-9pm the City of Takoma Park Police Department will host a Multi-Jurisdictional Public Safety Summit. Law enforcement leaders from the following law enforcement agencies are expected to attend the Summit; the Montgomery County Police Department, Prince George’s County Police Department, Metropolitan Police Department (DC), Metro Transit Police, Maryland State Police, and Maryland-National Capital Park Police.

The Butterfly Experience at Brookside Gardens is returning to Montgomery Parks later this week. Formerly known as Wings of Fancy, the exhibit is relaunching on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at 10 a.m., and runs through Sunday, September 21, 2025. Advanced timed tickets go on sale Monday, March 3.
According to Maryland Lottery and Gaming, Maryland’s six casinos combined to generate $172,105,632 in revenue from slot machines and table games during March 2025. The total was down $6,032,191 (-3.4%) from March 2024 when the casinos registered their fifth-best monthly gaming revenue performance ($178,137,823).
