Beyond MoCo

The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD), with assistance from the FBI, Interpol, and El Salvador National Police, arrested and extradited 58-year-old fugitive Jose Mauricio Rivera from El Salvador after over 27 years on the run; Rivera was wanted for attempted murder and assault in a 1997 Silver Spring shooting.

The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) is advising residents to report thefts from vehicles or vehicle tampering, remain vigilant during overnight hours, park in well-lit areas, lock doors, remove valuables, and watch for suspicious activity as thefts from autos and auto parts, including Honda airbag thefts, remain a concern. Beth’s, the latest addition to Bethesda’s vibrant dining scene, is set to open its doors on Friday, December 6th. Located in the heart of downtown Bethesda at 4948 Fairmont Avenue, Beth’s will specialize in casual American food and drinks in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.  The name Beth’s is an ode to “Bethesda,” where owners Deniz and Celal Gulluoglu live and currently own and operate ala.

Maryland

According to Maryland Lottery and Gaming, Maryland’s six casinos combined to generate $158,122,302 in revenue from slot machines and table games during November 2024, an increase of $403,808 (0.3%) compared to November 2023. Casino gaming contributions to the state during November 2024 totaled $68,879,589, an increase of $2,729,307 (4.2%) compared to November 2023. The November 2024 contributions included $49,682,786 to the Education Trust Fund, an increase of $1,955,224 (4.2%) compared to November 2023.

MCPS

Maya Eaglin, who is a digital reporter at NBC and a co-host of NBC’s Gen Z Snapchat show “Stay Tuned”, has made the 2025 Forbes 30 Under 30 list in the Media category. She’s also a Montgomery County native and 2015 graduate of James Hubert Blake High School in Silver Spring.
