Winter City Lights, open now through December 29th in Olney, MD, has captured national attention and high rankings for its light displays, flagship Christmas tree, and 1.5 mile illuminated path through the woods. According to Winter City Lights, the holiday lights event has already been named as a top holiday lights attraction in the country by Country Living #2, Pioneer Woman #5 and House Beautiful #15 (video preview below).

Prince William County police arrested Elias Samuel Vargas Canaviri, 22, of Silver Spring, MD, on charges of indecent liberties, carnal knowledge, and using a communication system to facilitate offenses involving a minor, following an investigation into a sexual assault reported by the victim to a school counselor. Announcement

On August 22, the New Neighbor Interfaith Alliance (NNIA) will host the 2026 Set Them Up for Success Volleyball Tournament and Family Fun Day from 9 am-4 pm at the Interdenominational Church of God in Gaithersburg, gathering volleyball teams, faith community members, and the public to raise funds to help recent refugees in Montgomery County attain independence.

An interfaith non-profit alliance of 37 faith communities and civic groups, NNIA raises funds to help resettled refugees with rental assistance, deferred medical care, English language skills and job placement. They also hope to expand their volunteer numbers to help more beneficiaries with job assistance, reliable transportation, and mentoring.

College Park Day is on Saturday, October 3, 2026 from 12:00 to 6:00 pm at the College Park Aviation Museum and Airport!This annual festival has free activities and entertainment for all ages.

Beyond MoCo

Sailing Through The Winter Solstice begins annually in November, when a number of boats, transformed through the “creative minds of many Frederick friends”, set sail on the Creek. The boats are anchored in Carroll Creek (50 Carroll Creek Way, Frederick, MD 21701), between Market Street and Carroll Street in Frederick County. Crime

A Montgomery County, MD man and former Montgomery County Police officer, 25-year-old Justin Lee, was sentenced to prison Friday after he was previously convicted of forcibly obstructing law enforcement and other charges related to his conduct during the Jan. 6, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol.
