12:54pm Update: Officers are clearing the school and @MCPS has changed Kennedy HS to a Hold status as officers wrap up.
The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) shared at 12:15pm that Kennedy High School in Silver Spring was placed on ‘Hold’ status after a report of a firearm. According to policed no weapon was seen upon investigation.
MCPS Superintendent Thomas Taylor issued the following community message on Tuesday, September 16, reaffirming that Montgomery County Public Schools remain safe, supportive, and welcoming environments for all students following recent federal immigration enforcement activity near a middle school. The message outlined strict protocols for handling enforcement visits, protections for student information, and resources for families, while emphasizing the district’s commitment to student safety, privacy, and inclusivity. Quince Orchard and Stone Bridge, two of the region’s most decorated programs, are set to meet for the third time in as many years. QO owns the first two clashes, but anyone who’s watched knows the margin has been razor-thin. Both contests were decided by defense, field position, and the occasional big play. This time, the Bulldogs may be bringing their most dangerous group yet.
This past week, officials of National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) announced the names of more than 16,000 Semifinalists in the 71st annual National Merit Scholarship Program, which included more than 100 MCPS students.
