Robert E. Peary High School was located at 13300 Arctic Ave. in Aspen Hill, MD. It opened in the 1960 and closed in 1984 primarily due to declining enrollment. A Facebook group with over 4,000 members keeps its memories alive.
The Urban School Food Alliance (USFA) announced the addition of Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) as its newest member. MCPS is the second district from Maryland to join The Alliance.
Woodfield Elementary School in Gaithersburg (near Damascus) boasts a rich and varied history dating back to 1865. Currently, students attending Woodfield Elementary School typically go on to John T. Baker Middle School and Damascus High School.

On October 15, 2024, what began as a routine school dismissal at Rolling Terrace Elementary School quickly turned into a harrowing moment that showcased extraordinary courage. As students were leaving for the day, a young child broke away from a parent and bolted toward the bus lane just as a bus was pulling out. In that split second, Jefferson Reyes, a fifth-grade member of the school’s safety patrol, reacted instantly– leaping into action to pull the child from harm’s way and likely saving a life.
Legendary physical education teacher Nikki Williams has retired after 31 years at Montgomery Village Middle School, marking an illustrious career in education that spans 35 years.
Westland Middle School, located at 5511 Massachusetts Ave. in Bethesda, will be closed on Monday, June 16, following significant damage caused by a downed tree. The removal of the tree has necessitated the closure of several classrooms, and operations for Tuesday have not yet been determined. A message went out to the Westland community on Sunday night:
MCPS has announced that Douglas Rivera is this year’s High School Counselor of the Year. According to MCPS, Rivera is entering his 10th year as a school counselor at MCPS, where he continually exemplifies commitment and passion for student success.
