After more than three decades as a cornerstone of the District’s craft beer community, Capitol City Brewing Company (1100 New York Ave NW, Washington, DC) has announced its permanent closure. The brewpub, which was the first of its kind in DC after Prohibition, will serve its last customers on Thursday, August 28, 2025.

Restaurateurs, chefs, restaurant industry professionals, and guests gathered Sunday, August 3 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center for the 43rd Annual RAMMYS Awards & Gala as the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington (RAMW) announced the 2025 RAMMYS Award winners. Jetties, a sandwich shop with one Maryland location (4829 Fairmont Ave. Bethesda, MD), was named the “Hottest Sandwich Shop of the Year.”

A few months back, Dave Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports and famous for his “One Bite” pizza reviews, visited Frank’s Pizza & Pasta at 6620 Belair Rd in Baltimore earlier this year to sample their offerings.  After his visit, customers began lining up down the block before the restaurant opens, eager to savor the pizza and cheesesteak that Portnoy rated so highly. Today, we tried it.

The National Restaurant Association is warning that newly announced tariffs on food and beverage imports by President Donald Trump could drive up costs for key menu items like coffee and hamburgers. The group says rising wholesale food prices and tight profit margins may force restaurants to raise menu prices, reduce customer traffic, and jeopardize industry jobs—urging the administration to exempt food and beverage items from ongoing trade negotiations.
