Takoma Park

Residents and businesses on the 7600 block of Maple Avenue in Takoma Park are advised that there is an ongoing water leak in the area. The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) was onsite this past Tuesday and successfully repaired a broken water main. However, a subsequent leak in a valve was identified and needs to be addressed.

Education

The Montgomery County Education Association (MCEA, teacher’s union) is calling on upcoming MCPS Superintendent Dr. Thomas Taylor to join them in asking for a $10 million special appropriation from the Montgomery County Council.

DMV

In the past we’ve shared information regarding various scams in local Facebook groups, including mobile car detailing and duct cleaning scams and imposter tattoo artist scams. A newer scam making the rounds now involves the sale of concert/event tickets at a lower-than-usual price, due to “emergency” on the seller’s side.

Event

General admission is $25 per person, which includes chili tastings. Free Admission for kids under 18, Police Officers and their Family is provided by MCPF). All proceeds benefit the Foundation’s mission to strengthen community-police relationships, support officers wellness, and enhance public safety initiatives across Montgomery County.

In addition to delicious chili, attendees can enjoy local craft beer from Lone Oak Brewery, family activities, and opportunities to meet and interact with Montgomery County police officers in a fun, relaxed setting.


Crime

Per MCPD: Officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police- 3rd District Station are investigating an attempted auto theft that occurred on Saturday, June 1, 2024, in the 8040 block of Kennett Street in Silver Spring. Officers have released photos of the three suspects and asking for the public’s assistance in identifying them. (more…)


Gaithersburg

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to the scene of a crash involving two vehicles on Shady Grove Road, at the I-270 ramp, on Wednesday evening. According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, several patients and being evaluated and some lanes are blocked.
