The Salgado family of Germantown has had a Christmas light display as far back as they can remember. The incredible display includes giant lighted arches, over 25 inflatables characters, a 20ft snowman, thousands of lights, an animatronic Santa, and more.

Beyond MoCo

Mayor Muriel Bowser issued a public emergency that she believes “will allow DC Government to respond more efficiently and urgently to two separate issues that, since the pandemic, have not only persisted, but worsened: the deadly opioid epidemic and youth violence.” In a statement released on Monday, Bowser wrote, “Although each of these urgent situations are, to some extent, geographically concentrated, the nature of the two emergencies demands city-wide responses.” The full statement can be seen below:

Homeowners are being offered accessible financing for energy-efficient appliances through a targeted, local collaboration between Montgomery County Green Bank (MCGB) and the Latino Economic Development Center (LEDC). With funding from the Green Bank, LEDC is offering a new loan, the LEDC Appliance Loan, to help homeowners purchase brand-new, eco-friendly appliances.

Montgomery Parks has acquired the site of a former equestrian facility in Silver Spring to create the new Ednor Soapstone Quarry Special Park – a new park to highlight the indigenous history of Montgomery County.

Education

In a letter sent to the Clarksburg High School community, principal Edward Owusu announced that he will be retiring as principal of the school, effective January 1, 2024. Owusu, who has been in education for nearly 30 years, has been principal at Clarksburg since 2017. He cites spending more time with his family, pursuing personal interests, and staying busy on the educational front as reasons for his departure. The full letter can be seen below:

Per Montgomery County: ” The Montgomery County Council will meet on Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 9 a.m. The meeting will begin with two proclamation presentations. The first, will recognize Small Business Saturday, led by Councilmember Marilyn Balcombe. The second will recognize the retirement of the Mayor of Rockville Bridget Newton and will be led by Councilmembers Sidney Katz and Kate Stewart. More detail on each agenda item is provided below.
