The central park area will include features and amenities interwoven with the natural habitat areas, including a new visitor center, community gardens, picnic area, playground, dog park and amphitheater. Over time, the entire park will be developed as an arboretum to feature arboretum plant and tree specimens and collections. Interpretive signage will be integrated into natural environments and park features with access along the pathway network.

Park features will be implemented in phases, particularly parkwide enhancements such as new forest, feature landscapes, collections associated with the arboretum and improvements to the pathway network. Plans for the park were developed based on the city’s strategic plan for recreation and parks; considerable engagement with, and feedback from, the community; input from the Mayor and Council; and environmental constraints of natural features at the park.

She has recently worked as a research and development chef for a bar in DC. Currently, she’s focusing on her business LP Drinks, where she offers personal virtual and in-person sessions, as well as private events, trainings, beverage program consulting, and more. “I tried my best to approach creating cocktails for the judges and on television the same exact way that I would take care of a guest at my bar. This, honestly, allowed me to focus on what was in my glass and the experience I ultimately provided the judges when they tried my beverages.” she said in an interview with NBC 4. Back in March we let you know that MoCo residents Sam Mussomeli and Terry Redmond are bringing BabyCat Brewery to 10241 Kensington Pkwy in Kensington.” Born from a love of nature, pets, family, and beer, BabyCat brewery will forever be dedicated to crafting excellent craft beverages and ensuring you, your family and your friends feel right at home every time you visit us.” The brewery has officially opened and has posted the following weekend hours: Saturday 11:30am-11pm and Sunday 11:30am-9:30pm

The brewery is family focused, as Mussomeli and Redmond would like to maximize the outdoor space. “We plan to have a good size lawn area where we’ll have adirondacks with some fire pits along with picnic tables, room for lawn games and spreading out blankets for families and their dogs.” says Redmond. “We’ll also have a bluestone patio area that will have a cafe type beer garden feel, along with some other surprises we’re not ready yet to reveal.”  The brewery will offer a space for local artists to show their work and would also like to bring in local musicians to perform. Though the brewery won’t offer food of its own, they’ll be working with food trucks and offering QR codes to use at some of the surrounding restaurants.

Maryland

Per the Maryland Department of Natural Resources: Hunters harvested 103 black bears during the state’s 19th annual black bear hunt held Oct. 24-29 in Allegany, Frederick, Garrett, and Washington counties. The harvest comprised 41 male and 62 female bears. An additional 10 bears (3 male and 7 female) were harvested from Sept. 1 through Oct. 31 by farmers using their agricultural damage permits.

The significant increase in harvest from 54 black bears taken in 2021 was attributed to better hunting conditions, more hunter participation, and an added day to the season. The 2021 hunt was hampered by poor weather and abundant natural food sources, which slowed the harvest. This year, better weather and typical fall food conditions were more favorable for hunting. The harvest was slightly lower than the previous 5-year average of 116 bears.
