MoCo Libraries

Montgomery County Public Libraries announced a change to Sunday service that will take effect starting Jan. 11, 2026, reducing the number of branches open on Sundays as part of what MCPL says is an effort to ensure consistent staffing, sustainable operations, and enhanced programming for the community.

Beyond MoCo

Anthony G. Brown announced that a Baltimore County judge sentenced Michael C. Okolo, 68, of Parkville, MD, to six months in jail after a jury convicted him of two counts of insurance fraud and one count of obstruction of justice related to misappropriating $36,500 from a client and fabricating evidence.

Colesville

A 23-year-old Silver Spring woman has been charged with manslaughter by vehicle due to gross negligence and related traffic offenses following an August 2025 crash that led to the death of an 85-year-old passenger.

Beyond MoCo

Frederick Mayor Michael O’Connor and the City Council issued a joint statement criticizing uncoordinated federal enforcement actions, saying they undermine public safety and community trust, and called for transparency, accountability, and coordination consistent with local policing standards. Chevy Chase

A Montgomery County pair won $1 million after purchasing a $20 FAST PLAY lottery ticket at Lakeforest Exxon, located at 448 North Frederick Avenue in Gaithersburg. The winning ticket was bought moments after they decided to try one more game, and the retailer will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the top-prize ticket.
